Do you love PWCs? Do you love go-karts? Have you heard of the Sea-Doo Spark Evo Jet Kart? If not, then keep reading, because this article is going to blow your mind.
PWCs come in many shapes and sizes, from stand-up jet skis to sit-down wave runners, to the Sea-Doo, which is a hybrid of the stand-up and sit-down models. You’d think that people would be satisfied with the plethora of options out there and that it would be easy for anyone to find exactly the style of PWC they like, but there are many reasons why you might need or want a modified PWC.
The Sea-Doo Spark Evo is a fully functioning aquatic jet ski! It features a completely redesigned hull and a steering wheel instead of handlebars. You’ll be sitting inside the hull rather than on top, and you can steer the jet ski like a go-kart.

What Exactly is a Spark Evo?
We recommend checking out this video to see the Sea-Doo Spark Evo in action.
As you can see in the video, the Sea-Doo Spark Evo is a super fun, super nimble aquatic vehicle. It’s basically a water go-kart!
To create the Evo, the base Sea-Doo Spark model has been adapted with a conversion kit, made by American Jet Concept. The original modification was a one-off, meant to be a fun experiment that employees at the company made for a friend.
However, when they tested the Jet Kart, they thought it was so fun that they wanted to make more.
Spark Evo Specs and Features
Dimensions and Features
Hull
The Spark Evo Jet Kart has the same hull dimensions as an unmodified Spark. The addition of the roll cage adds some height. The 3up models have an additional 10 inches added to the rear of the hull, which makes them extremely stable.
Seats
The regular Spark seats have been replaced with a single bucket seat. This gives this modified PWC an extremely low center of gravity, making it very stable. Unfortunately, it’s impossible for 2 people to ride in the Spark Evo—if you want to ride with passengers, you’ll need to remove the conversion kit and go back to the regular Spark.
Steering
The Spark handlebars have been removed and replaced with a steering wheel, allowing the rider to steer the PWC like a go-kart.
Speed
The Jet Kart has the same top speed as the Sea-Doo Spark, which is between 42-53 mph, depending on the horsepower and other specs.
The 90HP models can hit as much as 48 mph under ideal conditions, while the 60HP models will top out around 42-45MPH.
If you need more power, Sea-Doo offers a 120HP upgrade kit, which takes the top speed up to 53 mph.
Sea-Doo Spark EVO FAQ
After watching the video above, many people will have questions. How comfortable is it? Can I make my Waverunner into a jet kart? How much does it cost? Read on to find answers to all your questions.
Can I make another type of PWC into a go-kart?
Unfortunately, right now the Sea-Doo Spark is the only PWC with the capacity to be modified into a Go-Kart.
That’s because the Sea-Doo Spark is the only PWC on the market that is made with a fully removable top deck. This makes it a perfect candidate for modifying. It also means that the modifications are reversible.
Other PWC models like Yamaha and Kawasaki do not have removable top decks. Additionally, those PWCs have their motors placed too far forward to accommodate the bucket seat.

How safe is the Sea-Doo Evo? What happens if it flips?
According to American Jet Concept, it’s extremely difficult to flip the Sea-Doo Spark Evo Jet Kart. This is because the extensions to the hull give it greater stability and the bucket seat lowers the rider’s center of gravity.
There are multiple videos available online of the manufacturers performing test rides on the Jet Kart. In the videos, the riders perform difficult maneuvers that would be impossible on an unmodified Spark. One video features a sit-down discussion with the Jet Kart’s creator, in which a test driver first drives the Spark Evo and actively tries to flip it without success.
In the event that the Jet Kart does flip, it is very easy to get out of. There is no harness keeping the rider attached to the vehicle, and the roll cage is completely open on top. Exiting the vehicle after a roll is as simple as pulling your legs out of the bucket seat and swimming away.
How comfortable is the seat?
Depending on the size of the rider, the seat can be a little more uncomfortable than a regular Sea-Doo seat. Because you are closer to the waves, you will feel the impact of bumps more than you would on a regular jet ski.
Additionally, the angle at which you sit can become cramped after extended periods of riding.
American Jet Concept is currently working on a new version of the Jet Kart that has two seats. They have stated that as part of this upgrade, they are also working on improving the comfort of the seats.
How long does the conversion take?
It takes about 3 hours to completely install the conversion kit. You don’t need to be a professional to install the kit, and everything you need is provided except for tools.
How much does the Sea-Doo Evo cost?
Sea-Doo sells 5 pre-made Jet Kart models with the conversion kit already installed starting at $14,990 for the 60HP model. The 90HP model starts at $15,990 and the 120HP model runs as much as $17,990. This cost includes the Sea-Doo Spark, with its original parts, including handlebars, seat, and regular top deck, as well as the pre-installed conversion kit.
To purchase just the conversion kit by itself will cost you around $8490. An unmodified Sea-Doo Spark (i.e. one sold by Sea-Doo without the conversion kit) starts around $5699, so buying the new Spark and conversion kit separately will cost about as much as buying a premade Jet Kart.
If you don’t already own a Spark and you think you might want to modify it into a Jet Kart, it’s probably worth buying a pre-made Jet Kart from the factory. The labor of installing the kit will be done for you, and since it will be done by Sea-Doo, you know it will be done correctly. You will also be able to rely on Sea-Doo for help if something is wrong with the installation.
There are no financing options for purchasing the kit by itself. Sea-Doo does offer financing on their regular Spark models. It’s worth contacting a Sea-Doo representative to discuss whether they also offer financing on the Sparks with pre-installed conversion kits.
Where to Buy the Spark Evo
There are two ways to get your hands on a Sea-Doo Spark Evo. The easiest way, if you already own a Sea-Do Spark, is to purchase a Sea-Doo Spark Evo Jet Kart Conversion Kit, which allows you to modify your existing Spark into a jet kart.
Sea-Doo Spark Jet Kart Conversion Kit
The Jet Kart conversion kit comes with everything you need to turn your Sea-Doo Spark into a jet kart.
The best part is, all the additions are removable so you won’t lose any resale value if you want to sell the Sea-Doo later.
However, be aware that installing the conversion kit to your Spark could void the warranty.
Inside the conversion kit, you’ll find
- A molded top deck with nose and rear cover
- A steering wheel
- A footrest
- A bucket seat and mounting brackets
- A roll cage
- An 11-gallon aluminum gas tank
- A wire harness for the cluster
- Sponsons
- Fasteners
- Instruction manual
